And yet to many, this noble piece of our great land remains undiscovered. Its history, myriad points of interest and inherent natural beauty are just part of a wondrous, "hidden treasure". The Adventure of Carroll County awaits you.
And by the way, bring the entire family; there's something for everyone!
You will feel right at home when you reach Carroll County, our corner of beautiful Northwest Illinois. We will make sure of that. We have friendly people “Who take the time to care”. Quiet nights, fabulous music at our summer stock theater, the magnificent Mississippi River, and outdoor spaces will “refresh your spirit” and touch our soul. It is said the Indians called this place “man-i-tumi” which means “Land of God”. We truly have something for everyone, unless you want tall buildings, more than one stop light and lots of traffic. We offer peaceful winding roads, wild flowers, bird watching, picturesque golf courses, bike trails, and the best get away you can imagine.
Follow a curvy road to your temporary home away from home. You might choose to park your car in front of the cabins/camp sites, cottages/bed & breakfasts, or hotels that offer the conveniences of home. You will find a place to hang your hat near creek side, riverside, in converted barns on farms near tall pines or near a golf course. You may want accommodations with only 1 room or 2 or with beds for 8 or 10.
Our meandering back roads will take you to fun and adventure. You will find boat and canoe rentals, bike shops, acres of river frontages and guides to assist you. The area is a “Sportsman’s Paradise”. There also is horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing in season. The Great River Trail invites you to experience “The Mighty Mississippi River”, the world-renowned river. The Mississippi River provides an abundance of activities from watching the white pelicans, eagles, geese, thousands of ducks to fishing for catfish, bass, crappie, walleye, northern pike and many other spices of fish. A biking or hiking event will cause you to come back again and again. There are dozens of pleasant surprises along the route. Enjoy the great scenery that surrounds you.
